Full Fact wins Political Studies Association award
Full Fact has received a prestigious award, for Political Transparency, from the Political Studies Association, "in recognition of the important strides they have made towards ensuring that public debate is based on fact rather than fiction." The PSA drew attention to our work with the UK statistics watchdog and engagement with newspapers to secure corrections.
The PSA Awards are held each year to honour the contributions of journalists, academics, campaigners and politicians to political activity. The Awards Jury this year included Daniel Finkelstein, Associate Editor of the Times, and Guardian columnist Deborah Orr.
The Jury said, "Full Fact have systematically followed a number of policy debates and used existing machinery to try to hold politicians, civil servants and journalists to account if they move beyond legitimate interpretation to downright failure to tell the truth."
Michael Crick from Channel 4 News hosted the event. Among the other winners were Jack Straw (Lifetime Achievement in Politics), Andrew Neil (Journalist of the Year) and Stella Creasy (Campaigner of the Year). The MP Andrew Tyrie received an award for the best use of evidence.
Full Fact's Director, Will Moy, said, "Politics should be more than a choice between blind faith and blind cynicism. We're proud of this recognition that our work has helped the public as well as politicians and journalists do better than that."
Our work is only possible because of the people who tip us off about claims, the experts who help us analyse them, and everybody who donates. Thank you, and we hope you'll all be proud too.
